3 Ways to Stop a Wandering Mind
A 2010 study by Harvard University found that people spend nearly half of their waking hours thinking about something other than what is happening in the moment.
Luckily, there are ways to curb this. By practicing mindfulness and embracing the stillness of the mind, you can sharpen your focus.
- Controlled breathing is the key to living in the moment. Inhale for a count of 5, hold the breath for 3, then exhale for a count of 4. Repeat until the mind slows and tension releases in hte body.
- Focus on the sensations you are experiencing. Practicing mindfulness doesn’t just involve sitting still. You can do so doing everyday tasks. While you’re making tea, feel the smoothness of your cup, the warmth of the water filling your mug and the aroma of the tea as it infuses.
- When you feel your mind racing, stop and breathe.
