Journal Journeys: It’s OK to Be “In Your Feelings”

Showing your feelings has historically been seen in a negative light. And while showing negative feelings in a violent way is not ok, “feeling” in itself is human and healthy. Being in tune with your feelings can help you identify triggers and examine why things, people or instances cause reactions in your body.

Introspection and excavating your emotions through journaling can be a great tool for healing. The next time you are feeling a difficult emotion – frustration, anger, sadness, etc. – try these journal prompts to get to the root of it.

  1. Right now, I feel _______.
  2. What happened externally that is making me feel this way?
  3. I feel , but underneath that feeling I also feel _______.
  4. Is there something about how you feel right now that reminds me of the past?
  5. What do you need to let go of?
  6. What do you think would have to happen for you to become the calmest, happiest version of yourself?
  7. What one thing you can do to feel better right now?
  8. What one thing are you grateful for?
