On chilly winter days, it’s tempting to hit the snooze button and stay cozy in bed. But just because you’ll be wearing layers for the next few months, it’s important that health remains a priority. Now is not the time to get lazy, especially with all the holiday treats you recently indulged in. No judgement. Really.

Here are a few ways you can motivate yourself to keep up a healthy exercise routine, so you’ll be right on track for next summer.

  1. Make your workout plans the night before. Pick your workout before hitting the sack. Set an alarm. Even pick your workout clothes so they’ll be ready when you awaken. Although mornings are best, it’s ok to work out later in the day when your schedule allows. Just get it in and stick to it.
  1. Mix it up. Don’t do the same routine every day. Add some excitement by switching it up. Do a tabata one day, then yoga the next, then a brisk walk or run the next. Ward off boredom by varying your workouts.
  1. Find a virtual workout buddy. It always helps to stay motivated if you have someone to be accountable to. Schedule a Zoom workout that you can do together.
  1. Change your mind about exercise: Motivation begins in the mind. Keep your focus on the benefits of exercise and remember your goal.
