Now’s A Good Time For A Mental Cleansing
It’s difficult to ignore all that is happening in our world today. We want to stay informed and prepared but staying engaged 24/7 can create fear and anxiety that can be harmful. That’s why committing to taking care of your mental health is very important.
Incorporate these sanity-saving practices into your daily life.
- Establish a positive waking routine. Upon waking and right after getting out of bed, hydrate by drinking 8 ounces of water. Do some gentle stretching to wake up the joints and organs. Journal or read some positive affirmations to set the tone for the day. Think of three things that bring you happiness or that you’re grateful for. And, by all means, do NOT pick up the phone or turn on the television when you first wake up.
- Clean your space. Tidying up your home can have significant positive effects on your mental health. Put away items that clutter your space and replace them with things that bring you comfort like your favorite soft blanket or fluffy pillows. Spray pleasant scents or sage your home to stimulate the senses. Use a diffuser to burn essential oils to uplift the energy in your space.
- Limit your time watching television and scrolling social media. Absorbing news can send your mind spiraling to negativity and worst-case scenarios. Yes, stay informed, but don’t spend your day and night with the news in the background. It’s not good for you or your family and children.
- Do something that brings you joy: Go for a walk in nature, take a long bath (water is cleansing) or just sit and enjoy nothingness. As long as it’s healthy and not harmful to you or others, do it!
