Meal prep is not a new idea. Our mothers and grandmothers practically invented it, making meals at the beginning of the week to save time and money to feed our families. But meal prep has recently become popular among the health-conscious community.

Not only is meal prep great for saving time and money, but it’s also a good way to ensure you’re getting all your nutritional needs taken care of while being proactive with food cravings.

Here are 5 tips to keep in mind when meal prepping.

  1. Make a plan. Decide what you’ll be eating during the week then create a shopping list. Plan for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or tackle less, depending on how much you want to prep. Keep in mind that some meals may go bad after too many days in the fridge.
  2. Invest in quality meal containers. There are many meal prep containers available but go for glass, which is healthier than plastic.
  3. Keep a variety of healthy recipes on hand. Check out our library of healthy recipes here.
  4. Buy in bulk. This can save money.
  5. Pre-wash your fruits and veggies to save time.
