Your liver, which is responsible for some 500 bodily functions, filters harmful organisms, alcohol, heavy metals, drugs and other poisons from the blood. You can only imagine the work this 3 lb. powerhouse has to do to keep up with the foods and drinks we ingest, the air we breathe and the things that are absorbed through the skin. With that said, the liver deserves some love every now and then.

Milk thistle, no relation to milk or dairy products, is something to consider taking when you want to cleanse the liver. Milk thistle has been shown to protect the liver from toxins and pollutants by preventing free radical damage and stimulates the production of new liver cells. It’s good for gallbladder and adrenal disorders, inflammatory bowel disorders, psoriasis, weakened immune system, and all liver disorders. This herb, unlike many I suggest, is NOT effective as a tea because of its poor water solubility and is best taken as a concentrated capsule or extract.
